Florida has 11 starters back on defense this year and just think of what that defense did to Oklahoma in the National Championship game last year and it will only be tougher on the big O's this year. Oh yeah I almost forgot Tebow's back. The only chink in this blue and orange knight’s armor may be the fact that they are young at receiver. Notice I didn't say they're weak, I just said young. They have a ton of young talent and the defense should give these young guys a lot of game time. I thought I'd seen everything, but this truly takes the cake. He had a short announcement, which I think is an obvious grab for attention given the decline of his career over the past few years:

"I have come to your state, in the recognition of the great Alabama-Auburn football game, to give my prediction. I have read many a thing about this game. And after studying closely, I predict the Tigers of Auburn will be victorious over the Crimson Tide of Alabama, and by a score of 32-13."

So, if anyone had any doubt as to the outcome of the upcoming game, I think we can rest assured given this goon's track record.

What Wins?

Starting this week, we will change direction on this blog. No longer will we predict the rest of the SEC games, but only the national games that matter. Laughable games such as Auburn-Alabama will be given only passing recognition. That means Alabama, Florida, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and anything else that matters that week, but only if it matters. When Texas Tech plays Baylor, we won’t provide a prediction. With that said, maybe the only avid reader we have can tell us the record I complied predicting SEC games this year. He is a man with at least one initial of his name starting with an “A”, and I feel like he can rise to the occasion to provide this, given the level of enjoyment he has reaped from this site.

The first entry on this blog predicted exactly what we are seeing today. Alabama is #1, and it seems the voters think that brute strength wins over finesse. Alabama is the only brute strength team in the mix, the rest being high octane offenses who haven’t seen Bama’s defense. The national championship game is not in January, but in December when Bama meets the Gators. This will definitely be Alabama’s toughest test, as Florida seems to be steamrolling everyone they meet. Expect Bama to bring some things they haven’t had to show all year, and Florida to be caught off guard. It always seems the Tide has the Gators number in the big games they meet. I predict a big win for that date, and will give my prediction that week.

Finally, if you will see the photo above, this is tops among hotels in Miami. Ah yes, the Setai on South Beach. For you high rollers, this is the place to be. For you Bama fans on a budget, the photo below is what you are looking for.

Good luck, it’ll be a tough ticket to see the Tide romp whoever is there.

Saban Interview

Recently I was fortunate enough to be granted a quick sit-down with Coach Nick Saban of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Enjoy.

Billy: Coach Saban, how do you explain the mercurial rise of this years team as compared to last years result?

Saban: Are you freakin' kidding me? This was only a matter of when, dude. Now, I admit that I do surprise even myself sometimes with the quick success of the Process I invented, but there was never any question. About last year, geez, what can you say. No way anybody’s gonna do what I do in year one. Had to run off half the team first and get some real players in here. Have you seen that Julio guy run? …That guy’s like the wind. Shula Jr. didn’t exactly leave a full tank in the car here if you know what I mean. As a matter of fact, the distributor cables were cut. Total revamp, boy.

Billy: Thanks Coach. Looking ahead, what do you think about the game in a few weeks with LSU, your former school?

Saban: I don’t, aight? Don’t you watch my press conferences numbnuts? I look at the game immediately in front of me, train my players to destroy the player in front of them on every play, then move on to the next week’s victim. Lester will get his when we get there. He’s got it comin’. And remember, injured players are just part of the game, so he shouldn’t get his panties in a wad when it happens.

Billy: Thanks Coach. What would you hope for your legacy here at Alabama to be?

Saban: Well, other than a few NCs, I suppose it would be to grace the covers of more magazine covers than any other Bama coach. Nahh…just kidding, I don’t care about that crap. I guess being the greatest coach ever to walk the sidelines of Bryant-Denny-Saban Stadi …..oops, did I say that? Uh..Heh…anyway, those aren’t just “hopes”, pencil boy, they will be reality.

Billy: Thanks Coach. Can you talk a little bit about the situation surrounding Jimmy Johns and how….

Saban: Listen, I’ve got to get out on the field and get to work. I told you three questions anyway. Get outta here.

So that was it folks, my first sit down with the man himself. The first BCS standings were released this weekend, and Bama sits at #2 in the nation. This seems to collide with my prediction that we will be in the national championship game in Miami. A few games left to play, and I’m going to have to really hunker down and dig deep to review the rest as the remaining games are a mere formality, but all you Bama fans can go ahead and make those reservations in Miami.

The Tide rolled again, but gave us a bit of a nailbiter against Ole Miss. Listen folks, I never said these teams would roll over and die when the Crimson and White walked into the stadium. There are teams that really, really want to win, sure. But can they really? Now, all of a sudden, I hear “sportswriters” claiming that the Clemson win was not a good win, and the Georgia win doesn’t look so impressive anymore either. And, I can already hear them panting that LSU may not be the kind of quality win we will need to prevent USC (who lost to Oregon State) from overtaking us. Clemson is no good because we destroyed them so completely that it ruined the rest of their season. Nick will be handing at least three coaches their pink slip this season, as his mere presence signifies an entirely new order in the universe. Mal Moore really sort of sucker punched the rest of the SEC by bringing in the Sabanator. Poor saps never saw it coming.
Georgia has lost a bit of their swagger due to what Bama did also. As for no more quality wins ahead, where ranked are all of these other teams Bama will play, and why? Of course they won’t be quality wins! We’re better than those teams! They lost, and we’ve won. Duh! I guess they are right, Bama won’t be pulling off anymore upsets this year, the geniuses. I know they don’t want to drop Oklahoma or Missouri more than two spots on a loss just because they have “great” quarterbacks who don’t win games, but they’d send us to #15 if we lost. Let Texas, Missouri or Oklahoma play an SEC schedule week in and week out. They’d never survive

Alabama @ Tennessee

For the first time ever, I am worried about a letdown against Phat Phil and the Pumpkins of Tennessee. Reason being: Why kick a dead horse (which is actually the practice of the head coach of Auburn football, detailed later in this post)? The man’s strategic moves this week (which can fully be tied to a severe case of Sabanoia) have all but proven that this 10 year farce is going down like the Titanic. It’s not even funny anymore. I like to poke fun at our cross-state rival, but what this man has done to the former OC and his family, the players, and Auburn’s fan base is inexcusable and embarrassing even to me. Goodbye Tommy. Keep trying every week to BS your way through the losses about how things will get better. This week immediately after the loss he said “I mean, gosh, this Arkansas team is the best team we’ve played since LSU.” You make the call. I will say this: the only reason I’m so hard on the man is his complete lack of class in how he handled his victories over a cross state rival who’d obviously had an arm and leg tied behind their collective backs for years. Holding up however many fingers, comments about how they’d never lost in Tuscaloosa, those are the mark of a weakling of a man, and if I ever hear of an Alabama coach doing it, I’ll be the first to stand up and denounce it. It’s sort of like any president of the United States making fun of the poor people of a Communist country, because the US outperforms their GDP on a year-to-year basis. Hell, they’ve got their hands tied behind their backs! Shug Jordan should be rolling over in his….well, I’ll stop there. Except to say I personally can’t wait to see Tommy loading books into his car like Franklin had to do. Players said the man was “just doing his job”, and better than ever on Tuesday, then TT canned him. I truly hope Auburn gets a good coach to compete with Alabama toe-to-toe every year, that’s what makes the rivalry great. And maybe win an SEC championship while the 500 lb gorilla of this state is full strength.

Just looked at the latest standings after the landslide of top teams going down during Bama’s off weekend. First, let me say that now that the after effects of Bama’s ten years of trouble have worn off, the universe is now back as it should be. There are two ways to look at the polls. One type of voter says to himself, “Last week I thought Oklahoma was #1, and Bama #2. Therefore, if Oklahoma loses, Bama must be my new #1.” The other kind of voter says “Bama was my #2, but if the team who beats Oklahoma is close enough behind (meaning, it wasn’t a fluke like Ole Miss beating Florida), I’ll jump them up to #1, because we’re all still learning about who these teams are and how good they are.” Yes, I know. Its like pollsters trying to figure out on a week to week basis who should be in the championship game of basketball’s March Madness, without having the benefit of March Madness. But that’s what we have, short of a playoff.

I actually subscribe to the second type of voter, I’d vote that way. After all the games in a weekend, I’d come up with a totally new top 25 for myself, regardless of where they stood last week. And this is good for Bama, because, even though they are #2, they still ain’t #1. Good psychologically for our boys, and people won’t put quite the mustard on aiming to knock Bama off. I therefore hope that Texas stays number one until the Big 12 Championship, where they get knocked off. Then we’ll have the dream matchup of Bama-Penn State. Gotta love Joe Pa, the matchup, and the fact that the state of Pennsylvania has one of the largest chapters of Bama alumni in the nation. And nobody’s stopping Penn State in that league. Still haven’t gotten to those Miami hotel reviews, hope to do so soon.

Ole Miss @ Bama

Any worries of a letdown are being proven silly every week that goes by. He wasn't the best in front of a mic, but Tuberville should have known that when he first talked to him. But Tuberville hired him. And when he did, he told him he couldn't bring any of his own people with him, he had to teach all of the existing Auburn offensive staff the offense, then the players. The snake pit of position coaches weren't told by Tommy that "this OC is your boss, do exactly as he says". Tommy isn't a coach of anything. It is painfully obvious that Tommy only takes orders from trustees, and hires and fires coordinators. The Sabanator makes our trustees sweat, everytime they cross his path. Don't get in the man's way. He is in control at every level, and the whole university knows it.

Tommy is a cardboard coach, the front man, with a little grin and twang in his voice that makes the Auburn people feel good. But not for much longer. Good luck on any OC wanting to work for TT after seeing this. Tony "I hate myself" Franklin has been relieved of his duties. Here's the best part: Know who will be running the offense now? Tommy Tuberville. This is only another step in the demise of TT, all self-inflicted. I may want to reverse the score I had predicted, Auburn may very well go down in this one. If they go down to the Hogs, Tuberville will not survive. Man, the damage Saban can do without even beating them. This was all due to "Sabanioa". Wait a minute, I thought Tuberville said that this offense was going to be great when it got great and he was glad he went to the offense because it gives them "options". I went 4-1 this week. Who knew South Carolina still had life in them? The Vandy game has started the onset of the firing of Tuberville, who fired a perfectly good offensive coordinator for some guy who never combs his hair and hates himself. The barn is on fire at Auburn , and there are no buckets. It is truly astounding to see Tuberville self-destruct, and he didn’t even have about a decade of NCAA sanctions shoved down his throat. This has been totally voluntary on his part. Maybe they can get Bobby Petrino now that the smoke has cleared. Tuberville did take the blame for the loss. At least honesty seems to be making a comeback. One player said no one knew what was going on, and there is much confusion on the team. I don’t think I’ve ever heard any player on any team make a comment like that. It is literally the blind leading the blind down there. I wonder if Tuberville will boast this year of never having lost at Bryant-Denny, like he did when Bama was down, with no scholarships. Maybe he’s learned the meaning of “class” by seeing that the Sabanator doesn’t do that. He watches film and coaches. Aight?

No Bama game this week, which means an extra week of practice for Ole Miss. Then Tennessee . What a beating that will be, and on the road. Should I even do this blog anymore? At the first of the season, no one took this seriously. It has become the sober reality now, and I’m not getting too many Auburn fans making comments out there. I guess they have their own problems to worry about, other than holding up 7 fingers at Bama fans.

Arkansas @ Auburn

Coach Personality vs. Coach Wingnut. Some very interesting aspects to this game, and none of it will be on the field. Coach P tried to take Tubby’s job a couple years ago. After a brilliant turn of PR events for Tuberville back then, it appears this will happen after all. Auburn ’s crash and burn under the same coach is unprecedented. Remember this quote from Tubby? – “Heck, we could've gone to No. 1 if we beat LSU. Think about it. They did win the national championship.” This would be funny if not so pitiful. The part of life they don't understand, is that when extreme success has been shown by an individual within his field, he is rewarded handsomely. Its called "capitalism". Thus,I give you the Saban cabin on Lake Burton, Georgia, due to be complete just after the BCS Championship he wins in January.

Saban only spends like 2 weeks a year here, but look at this palace!! You get what you pay for, and that includes coaches. If they'd realize that down at Auburn, they might have themselves a "real deal" football team like the Tide. Some have to learn the hard way (for like 10 years). I'd be willing to bet that some of these same people have no problem with million dollar fat cats being bailed out by all of us. Saban "creates" his own income though. They are literally swimming in cash in Tuscaloosa, thanks to the Sabanator.

See ya next week!

Deep Thoughts from Tuberville

Folks, I don't know if you can sense it, but there is panic in the SEC, regarding the progress of "The Process". A rival coach doesn't even have to address it directly, but the stupidity of some of the comments simply jumps off the pages. What does one do when their performance on the field leaves much to be desired? Give it lip service. Take yesterday's quotes from Wingnut down at Auburn (sit down before reading):

"I love this offense. It's going to be great. I'm glad we've gone to it. It's going to give us some options. We're 4-1 and played a very tough schedule to this point and we hadn't hardly seen anything from this offense. Once we get going it's going to be much better. There's no panic mode."

and this...

"I'm here to win games. I'm not here to win friends and run for public office.", coupled with another quote to another reporter, "Tony ain't running for president, but that's not his job. Now me, I've got to be more of a politician." Come again?

and my favorite.. "We're two minutes away from being 5-0 and probably ranked No. 2," Tuberville said. "Heck, we could've gone to No. 1 if we beat LSU. Think about it. They did win the national championship." Right you areTommy.

I suppose there is a lot more to say about this, but I think the quotes speak for themselves. I've held myself back so far with his meaningless rants, but can do so no longer. I will devote at least one post a week to something stupid TT says. Roll Bama.

Kentucky Blues

I read that Kentucky is coming into this game with a slew of injuries. Wait till you see what they walk out with. Anyway, this opens up an opportunity for some of the reserves to play, and Dottie from Russellville sent in this photo taken at Kentucky's Monday practice of some of the hopeful benchwarmers.

Hmm, seems like I have seen these guys somewhere before. If I was them, I'd boo. I'd boo me. I'd be angry. Everybody's expectations were high. My expectations were high. If I was a paying fan I'd be upset. This product has not been good, and it was my product. I don't blame them for being upset. I don't take it personal. When they said how wonderful you were, I didn't take that personal because I knew it wasn't true. I said all along that I wasn't very smart and y'all thought I was joking. Now you know. It's pretty true.''

Good, Tony! Hey, does this guy want to get fired? Because "I suck" is the message I'm being clobbered with here. Enough with the self-deprecation Tony, I don't think the Auburn fans think it is all that funny. In your defense, it does look like Tubby is unmercifully leaving you to twist in the wind. Hopefully before the debacle at Nashville this weekend, you will sit in for a speed session of Saban Public Relations 101. Rule #1: Control the message - don't let assistants speak out loud, the buck stops with the head coach. Or, give Nick himself a call. He's happy to dole out valuable advice to poor saps like you. And, if you are smart, you'll start spending a couple extra hours each day attempting to find holes in Bama's defense, now rather than later. It won't matter though. They're going to pound you.

Meanwhile, Auburn offensive lineman Chaz Ramsey has asked for and been granted his release. Word is the Auburn coaching staff has their eye on another 2 star recruit to step into his slot. From what I saw once again last night, the answer lies within watching the Crimson Tide play ball against these silly ball clubs every week. Seriously, put yourselves in the position of any coach whose task it is to prepare for Bama in the upcoming week. It must truly be frightening to KNOW you are going to take it in the teeth, and to be forced to scramble for answers for how the damage can be limited. The Tide is dominant at all positions – bigger, stronger, and faster. Expect more magazine covers for the Sabanator, and an article that no longer asks why he makes $4M a year, but tells you the reason why. If you don’t already know the answer to that, then you probably shouldn’t even be reading a football website. It’s called “the Process”. Any believers now?

The word was that Georgia fans left the funeral only halfway through the event, not even giving full respect to the deceased. How shameful. Even that silly dog UGA did his business on the big “G” logo at midfield after the game. It will truly be fun to watch these other teams beat up on each other all year, trying to come in second, and watch Bama run the ball right down the throats of everyone’s defense. I just hope it doesn’t become boring.

Kentucky @ Alabama

Tough to judge Kentucky, since they’ve played all patsies so far. Southern Cal was shown the door by Oregon State last night. So much for the conventional wisdom of the media that they couldn't lose to anyone. I must advise all Bama fans that if The Halloween Pumpkin from Tennessee decides to visit, it will send South Beach reeling out of the top ten, so proceed with caution. What better answer can there be but to pull out that secret weapon - the black jerseys. Katey bar the door, The Black Jerseys are out. No, Bama Nation. Another gimmick by another team looking to knock off the Tide. Give me a pick between a cool jersey and a Saban-coached football player that delivers teeth-shattering blows, and I'll take the latter every time. Betty's grandson J.R. snuck around the back fence of Georgia's practice facility and this is what he was able to grab through a hole in the wall. That stupid bulldog "UGA" smelled him out and he wasn't able to get anymore. The Dogs better stop foolin' around and put their big boy pads on this week, as a not-so-jolly St. Nick is bringing over a few bus loads of muscle to pile-drive Knowshon into the ground at around the line of scrimmage. Reading their press clippings has already dropped them a couple spots with the AP folks. Slacking off in this one will only get them embarrassed. From what I've seen, the kids from Bama will be looking to hurt somebody. Big thanks to BJ for the photo, keep the PI type info coming in folks. So some of you may have to fill me in on the particulars. I heard Saban didn’t throw a single fit. While I told you it would be over in about a quarter and a half, note that even I grossly underestimated what the Tide would do. What can be next? Did JPW have great pass protection? I think I saw him grill a steak back there one time, but maybe that was a dream. Later I decided it would be wise to begin looking at some of the features the city of Miami has to offer, hotels to rest within, etc…Later this week I will offer some hotel recommendations and other attractions to see.
Arkansas’s Coach P must be scratching himself somewhere watching the film on Sunday, trying to figure out just what it was that came into his stadium and embarrassed him so thoroughly in front of all his fans. I heard he called up Coach Saban for advice as other coaches have done following being tarred and feathered at the hands of the Tide. Petrino’s main concern was how to convince any of the fans to come back to the stadium. Saban’s advice: Choice of free pork rinds or moon pie to all in attendance. Saban advised him through much recruiting experience that these are two treats that none of the hillbillies from Arkansas can resist, and added that it would be a small price to pay for Bobby to have any respect among them after the crap he put out on the field. Nick would have told him not to play Alabama ever again, but Bob is locked into it every year, so why rub it in and remind him of that? Saban always gives these guys great advice.
So it looks like we have a game this week that just might keep me awake for more than three quarters. Folks are looking to this game as one of the few that will really tell us just how good the Tide is, sort of like they said about that Clemson game. Except the Tide were given no chance in that one. Seems Bama just keeps exceeding expectations. I heard some Aubie on a talkshow predict 7-5 for the reigning leader in national championships. Phffttt…My how perspectives change in a few weeks. Believe in the process folks. While Georgia has shown flashes of being as good as they were last year, somehow they aren’t living up to their preseason hype. They beat Ole Miss by a touchdown. So did Vandy. Bama’s closest margin of victory? 14 points when they were about to fall asleep. UGA beat Arizona State but who knows how good or bad either are? There is only one way to find out, and that is to put the players on the field and let them show us through the miracle of HD television. Bama is great on the road, and there is no way they’ll be caught asleep this week. This will “define” the team for the Sabanator, and for the rest of us.

Bama 26 – Bullpuppies 24.

Tennessee @ Auburn

At one time, this may have been a game of the week. That game is easily Bama-Georgia this week. The only thing of interest after what happened to these two this week is to settle which head coach will top the “coaches on the hot seat” list. While I get the feeling that Fat Phil has actually been on it for some time, he must’ve spent considerable time on the “other” throne after eating the huge humble pie Florida served him. How humiliating. Plus, if Phil keeps making that grotesque gum-chewing grimace every time something bad happens, his face will become stuck that way. No way can Auburn screw this up, I don’t care if they play their 3rd and 4th string QBs, which, by the way, maybe they should(?)

Auburn 28 – UT 10

Ole Miss @ Florida

Now in this game, depending on which Ole Miss team shows up….uh, heck it doesn’t matter which team shows up.

Alligators 42 – Rebels 10

Mississippi State @ LSU

Given the Bulldogs’ dismal performance so far this season, it appears that Coach Sly spent a bit too much time polishing his “Coach of the Year” trophy in the offseason. First order of business this week: BCS Championship. One of my staff has found that this year's game will be hosted by the Orange Bowl (at Dolphin Stadium). So if anyone has an old pair of size 33 Sun Britches lying around, I've been looking for some this week in preparation for the beach. I'd really like to have some of those. Those and a good pair of binoculars for watching the game. And Saban temper-tantrums. Man, can he blow a gasket or what? You gotta know Mal is smiling like a Chessire cat at the thought of the millions Saban is making the school. Mal hung in there and finally pulled that slot machine handle enough times to hit the jackpot if you know what I mean

So anyway, the drum beats on in the march to Bama's reservation in Miami. This week's victim was Western Kentucky, who obviously showed up just for the paycheck. They're gonna need it to pay the mountain of medical bills due to bone-crushing tackles. Apparently Nick opened up a can of whoop-ass this week at practice. Let's hope he doesn't have to do it again.

Hey, I noticed some strange things happened this weekend. Apparently hockey season opened up early as I saw a score of 3-2 somewhere...Also saw that the Tide allowed a touchdown.

This week's Bama-Arkansas game should be interesting...for about a quarter and a half. I think Arkansas nearly got beat by Etowah County two weeks ago. Thankfully a hurricane prevented a spanking of mammoth proportions at the hands of Texas. The Tide will welcome Coach P ("P" for Personality) to the SEC with an injury list a mile long after this one is over. Tide cruises to win, 24-10.

Week 2 Bama Nation

This football season will be full of surprises for the college football world, and for Alabama fans it seems it will be no different. Just as surprising as the fact that East Carolina would be 2-0 at this point, who knew that Bama could play football while simultaneously thinking of an opponent three weeks from now and still win by two touchdowns? Yes, it can happen, and will probably happen once more this year. Something tells me it will not be this week, as the Sabanator should be madder than a wet hen during the week's practices. Any way you look at it, championship teams win even when they play some of their worst football. LSU won the thing last year with two losses... what a crock. Not to mention Saban thinking during the game of having to pose for more magazine covers post-game. On to next week's pick!: The Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky roll into T-town hoping that Bama's defense will give up their first touchdown of the year. Given that the Tide will actually have game film of this week's opponent, don't expect it. We might see for the first time in our life an actual football stuffed down a quarterback's throat, requiring surgical removal. Bama 30 - WKU 9. P.S.- Does anyone know which bowl is hosting the BCS championship this year? Fiesta? Sugar? Trying to make some early plans.
